This Privacy Policy explains what information Frompting collects, how we use and protect it, and the choices you have over your data.

Overview

Frompting ("we", "us", "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect when you use Frompting at frompting.com, how we use it, and the choices you have.

Data We Collect

Account data — when you register, we collect your name and email address. We also record the IP address used at sign-up to help prevent fraud and abuse (for example, enforcing the one-free-account and usage limits).

Prompt content — the topics, context, and settings you enter to generate a prompt, and the prompts we produce for you. Saved prompts are kept in your account; other prompts are retained temporarily (see Data Retention).

Usage data — prompts generated, frameworks used, and feature interactions, used to improve the service.

Technical data — browser type, IP address, and device information collected automatically via server logs and analytics.

Payment data — if you subscribe to a paid plan, payment is processed by our payment provider (Stripe). We do not store card details.

Marketing preferences — if you opt in to our newsletter, we store your email address to send occasional product updates. You can unsubscribe at any time.

Your own AI keys (BYOK) — if you use the optional "run with your own API key" feature, your key is stored only in your browser. It is passed through our server solely to relay that single request to your chosen AI provider and is never stored or logged on our servers.

How We Use It

  • To provide, operate, and improve Frompting
  • To generate prompts and, when you request it, run them — which requires sending your input to AI model providers (see Data Sharing)
  • To send transactional emails (account verification, password reset)
  • To send newsletter/product emails, only if you have opted in
  • To prevent fraud and abuse and to enforce account and usage limits
  • To analyse usage patterns and fix bugs
  • To process payments and manage subscriptions
  • To comply with legal obligations

We do not sell your data. We do not use your prompts to train our own AI models.

Cookies

We use cookies to keep you logged in and to collect anonymous usage analytics. No third-party advertising cookies are used. You can disable cookies in your browser settings; some features (like staying logged in) may not work without them.

Browser Extension

Frompting offers an optional Chrome browser extension that adds a one-click "enhance" button and a set of f/ commands to AI chat websites (such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini). The extension follows the same privacy principles as the website, with these specifics:

  • What it sends — only the text you explicitly choose to enhance is sent to the Frompting backend (the same service as this website) to generate the improved prompt, together with your existing frompting.com session so we know which plan you are on. The extension does not read your browsing history or other tabs, and does not read page content except when you use Context Snapshot, described below.
  • Context Snapshot reads the conversation — and keeps it on your device — when you run the f/save command (or press "Snapshot" in the panel), the extension reads the conversation you have open — the messages, and the documents and pictures attached to them — so it can save them as one file. Attached documents are converted to text inside your browser. This is the one feature that reads page content, it runs only when you start it, it reads only the conversation that is open, and it never runs on its own. It is offered on ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Grok (and, best-effort, DeepSeek); on other sites the command declines rather than capture a partial conversation.
    Crucially, the conversation is not sent to Frompting. It is turned into a file inside your browser and stored there, and — only if you choose a folder for it — written to that folder on your own computer. It is not uploaded to us, and we cannot see it.
    On ChatGPT and Claude, the extension reads the conversation and its attachments using your existing session with that site, the same way the site's own page does. Those requests go from your browser to OpenAI or Anthropic and back; nothing about them reaches our servers. We never receive, store or transmit your credentials or session with any AI site, and the extension does not intercept or monitor the site's own network traffic.
  • Loading a snapshot sends it to the AI site you are on — when you run f/load and pick a snapshot, the extension attaches that file (and the pictures or documents it carries) to the chat on the AI site you are using, exactly as if you had dragged the file in yourself. That is a transfer from your device to that site, under that site's own terms; it does not pass through Frompting. If the site refuses the file, the snapshot is placed on your clipboard instead so you can paste it.
  • Switching AI sends the snapshot to the AI you pick — when you run f/switch (or load a snapshot into another AI from the panel), the extension saves the open conversation exactly as f/save does, opens the AI site you chose in a new tab, and attaches the snapshot there with the instruction you picked. Only a fixed list of AI sites can be opened this way. Nothing is sent until you press send on that site, and the conversation does not pass through Frompting.
  • Searching your snapshots stays on your device — f/search looks through the snapshots saved in your browser and folder, inside your browser. Nothing you search for, and nothing it finds, is sent to us.
  • The snapshot library page — the Premium page where you browse, search, read and download your snapshots runs inside the extension and reads only your own browser storage and, if you chose one, your sync folder. It contacts our backend once, to check which plan your signed-in account is on. Searching inside a snapshot happens entirely in your browser.
  • Where it runs — the enhancer only activates on AI sites in our built-in list, plus any additional site you manually enable via "Enable on this site." It does not run in the background or on other websites.
  • Signed-in features — if you are logged in at frompting.com, your existing session is used to unlock Premium features (image/video modes, Brand Kit, Saved Prompts). No separate password is stored by the extension.
  • Local settings — your preferences (backend URL, last-used framework, Brand Kit choice, where you dragged the buttons) and the list of sites you have enabled are stored only in your browser, not on our servers.
  • Saved snapshots, prompt history and favourites — conversation snapshots you save, the prompts you have enhanced on this device, and any prompts you mark as favourites (the ones f/prompt offers) are held in your browser's own storage, and in the folder you pick if you choose one. None of it is sent to us. Clearing your browser data, or deleting an item from the extension, removes it — although a snapshot already written to your folder is your file, so the extension leaves it alone rather than deleting from your disk.
  • Links to this website — the extension's settings panel links to pages on frompting.com (the guide, your dashboard, billing). Following a link is an ordinary visit to this website and is covered by the rest of this policy.
  • Your own AI keys — if you use "run with your own API key" from the extension, the key stays in your browser and is never stored or logged on our servers (see BYOK above).
  • Install and uninstall analytics — when you install or remove the extension we record the event so we can see how many people keep it and why others leave. That record contains: a random installation ID generated in your browser (which pairs an uninstall with its install so we can measure how long it was kept — it is not linked to any account and identifies no one), the extension version, your browser and operating system name, a country code supplied by our CDN, and a shortened IP address with the final part removed (for example 203.0.113.0), which is not sufficient to identify you or your household. If you choose to answer the short question on the uninstall page, your selected reason and any comment you type are stored alongside it. Answering is entirely optional — the uninstall is counted either way. No page content, prompts, browsing history, email address or account details are included.

The text you enhance is processed exactly as described elsewhere in this policy, including transmission to the AI model providers listed under Data Sharing. Please avoid entering sensitive personal or confidential information.

Data Sharing

We only share data with third parties where necessary to operate the service:

  • AI model providers — to generate (and, if you choose, run) a prompt, the text you enter is transmitted to third-party large-language-model providers such as OpenAI, Google, Groq, DeepInfra, OpenRouter, Mistral and similar. Please avoid entering sensitive personal or confidential information into prompts.
  • Stripe — payment processing
  • Email provider — sending transactional and (if opted in) newsletter emails
  • Hosting provider — server infrastructure
  • Analytics — anonymous aggregate usage data only

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data with third parties for marketing purposes.

Data Retention

We retain your account data for as long as your account is active. Prompts you explicitly save are kept until you delete them or close your account; other prompts you generate are stored on our servers for up to 90 days. If you delete your account, your personal data — including your generated-prompt history — is removed within 30 days. Anonymised usage logs may be retained for up to 12 months for analytical purposes.

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your account and data
  • Object to or restrict processing
  • Data portability

Security

We use HTTPS for all data in transit and follow standard security practices for data at rest. No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure; we cannot guarantee absolute security but we take reasonable precautions.
